250 Gallon Totes

Nilufer Smith from the Mahomet Ward wanted to pass along that there is a posting on craigslist for 250 gallon totes. These could work great for emergency prepardedness- water or fuel. You can look at the posting here:
http://chambana.craigslist.org/grd/1639723089.html

"These are on a 4- way metal pallet. They can be used for used oil, chemical, rainwater, or any thing else you would like to store. They have a valve on bottom that can be easily adapted to a standard garden hose."

I wish I had room for one!

Honey, Potatoes, Chocolate Chips, and Chicken!

About every six weeks, honey at Walgreens goes on sale (with an in-ad coupon) for $3.99for a 2 lb (32 oz) bottle. This is the least expensive I have found honey (even cheaper than buying in larger quantities). This week (well what is left of it) is one of those weeks!

County Market is having a 2-day sale (Friday and Saturday) that has a few good deals. Nestle Chocolate Chips are $.99, which is a great price, especially for this time of year! I think there is a limit of 3 per visit. Also a 5-lb bag of potatoes is $.88.

Frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts are $3.99 for 40 oz (2.5 lbs) this week at County Market, which is also a good price ($1.60/lb).

Walmart Clothing Clearance

The Savoy Walmart has a ton of clothing on clearance right now. I bought some baby clothes for shower gifts for $1 and some for my kids too. There's a lot of $1-$10 racks with some decent stuff on them in all departments. Probably the other Walmarts are doing the same.

Meijer String Cheese

Meijer has their 24-pack of string cheese on sale for $4.99 still this week. Use the Frigo Cheesehead coupon from here:
http://www.frigocheeseheads.com/
and it's only $3.99 per package. That's an awesome price! I was able to print two copies of this coupon off each computer.

Plus, on Saturday they have their chunk cheese for only $1.99. I love their mozzarella.

Gap Jeans- 30% off

30% off Gap jeans- Bring in an old pair of jeans (any brand- any condition) and you will get 30% off a new pair of Gap jeans. We just did this yesterday at Marketplace mall and the deal worked. We bought jeans that were regular priced, but I've heard from others that this also applies to jeans on sale- you would get 30% additional off the sale price.
The sales associate said that they donate the jeans to a company that uses denim to make housing insulation. I know that this promotion lasts at least until March 11, but it might go on longer. If you want to take advantage of this offer- I suggest calling the Gap at Marketplace mall to ask questions.

PVO Children's Sale

The PVO Children's Sale is coming up. For those of you who have never been, this sale has earned a reputation as being cheaper than One Week Boutique, with about the same quality of items. Essentially it's a big garage sale with great deals and you can sell your own stuff there retaining 70% of the cost. Here's the info:

Thank you for your interest in the PVO Children’s sale! We are happy to have you participating with us again as a vendor. After reading this, please email or call if you have any additional questions!

How does it work?

You price your items and bring them to the school at 6:00pm on Friday, March 26th. We sell them for you on the morning of March 27th and you collect your profit at 2:30pm on that day!

What is the catch?

Prairieview-Ogden PTO collects 30% of your profit.

What do I need to do?

You have been assigned a vendor number and given price tags. On the left and right side of the tag, please write your vendor number, your selling price, circle whether it is a boy or girl item (if applicable), and mark the size. Please secure your price tag to the item in an easy to find place. (collar, waist, top of toy, front of book, etc.) Please use safety pins to secure tags to clothing items. We ask that you put in a clear bag or tape down, any item that has loose pieces. Bring your items and unused pricing tags to the school at 6:00pm on March 26th Collect your profit and any unsold items at 2:30pm on March 27th.

What items do you accept?

Anything that relates to children: spring or summer clothing, shoes, toys, bikes, sports equipment, strollers, car seats, books, games, children's furniture (cribs, l'il tables, dressers), children's bedding, halloween costumes, coats, maternity clothes, etc. We suggest you sell items that are clean and in usable condition. Items that are not related to children, fall or winter clothing, or items not in good condition will NOT be put out to sell! WE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY STUFF ANIMALS. The PVO PTO fundraising committee members have final decision on what is included in the sale.

Why different colored tags?

We require that you use our tags. We use different colors to help us quickly sort the unsold items after each sale. White tags should be used if you want both your profit and your items returned to you. Blue tags should be used if you want your profit but do not want your unsold items returned to you. Yellow tags should be used if you don’t want your items or any profit, you just want the items out of your house! You can pick up tags from PVO South Elementary (304 Market St. in Ogden) during school hours.

**THIS SPRING WE WILL BE TRYING A ½ PRICE SALE FOR ALL BLUE TAG ITEMS REMAINING AFTER 11AM. FROM 11-11:30am- 100% OF THE SALE FROM BLUE & YELLOW TAG ITEMS WILL GO TO THE PVO PTO. (We’re finding we are getting more and more vendors with blue tag items which means we are left with a lot to clean up. We hope to bring in some last minute bargain shoppers.)

What happens if my item loses its tag?

Any items without a tag will not be sold and will be left for you to claim after the sale. Any unclaimed items will become the property of the Prairieview-Ogden PTO.

What can I do to help?

We welcome volunteers! We have 3 time slots that need volunteers. 1) Setup – setting up tables and putting out sale items on Friday night, 6-9pm. 2)Sale morning-working the sale, sorting, cashiers, etc. 8:30-11:30am 3)Clean up -returning items to vendors and cleaning up the school11:30-2:30pm. Anyone who volunteers can pre-shop on Friday evening! We only need a specified number of volunteers so email us early at pvo.pto@hotmail.com to sign up.

What do I do if I have more questions?

Email us at pvo.pto@hotmail.com or by calling one of the following committee members: Laura Irle, 217-582-2162, Nicole Crites: 217-621-9110.

Glasses

So I recently replaced my glasses and I thought I'd pass along what I learned. First of all, if you are a starving student family like us and have Medicaid, you can get free eye exams and glasses at the Eye Center on Windsor. The selection they have that are applicable aren't that great, but they work- even if you just need them as a backup.

Second of all, don't buy them from a retail store like lenscrafters or pearle vision. Even when they run a 2 for 1 sale, their rates are still higher than normal. I went around and found a pair I liked, but if I had bought them from Pearle vision I would have paid $500 total. Their lenses run from $175 for the most basic lens and around $300 for any anti-glare, etc. Instead look around, find some frames you like and look them up online. I bought the exact same frames for half the price online.

The cheapest place for lenses is Sam's Club. Frames there are also VERY affordable so much so that I wish I would have bought some there in the first place. They will charge a $20 fee for doing glasses that you bought elsewhere. BUT, their lenses range from $75-$150, so it's totally worth it.

Walgreens Diapers Jumbo pack $2.19 (newborn,1,2)

I just got the BEST diaper deal I have ever gotten (besides the rare occasion that they are free). Walgreens has the Walgreens brand size newborn (40 ct), size 1 (56 ct), and size 2 (48 ct) diapers clearanced down to $2.19 a pack!!! That is like 4-5 cents a diaper.

I was at the Walgreens on Prospect (across from Home Depot), but I would expect that the other stores in the area have the same clearance price. For the past few weeks these diapers were clearanced to $5.89 (I'm wondering if they are getting new packaging or something), which is still a really good price, but I cannot believe that they went even lower. We have used Walgreens brand diapers when they've been on a good sale before (though never nearly this good) and they worked great for us.

My kids don't wear those sizes, but we will eventually have more kiddos, so I spent $20 and got 10 packs. I really had to control myself to stop at that.

For those of you with little ones in your arms or on the way (now or sometime in the future), this is definitely a price to run out the door right now for. You might want to call ahead. Good luck!

Meijer Deals this week

Here are some good Meijer deals I found today.

Strawberries are 2/$5 again and they look pretty good. I haven't tried them yet.

Oranges are $3 for 5lbs. I've loved the oranges I've gotten there so far this year. I'll try one and let you know.

Cheeseheads 24-pack string cheese is $4.99. Then use the $1/1 coupon from here:
http://www.frigocheeseheads.com/

Kraft Mac and Cheese is 5/$3 then use the coupon here: (This is for $1 off of 5... making the price only $0.40 each.)
http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?bt=vg&tqnm=zbqgdym21151405&o=61563&c=KR&p=ZgLY4hr

Pam spray is 2/$4. There was a coupon that apparently is gone now, but if you printed it off, it was $.50 off two. Bummer that it's gone.

Kraft cheese is 3/$5. Plus, if you buy 3, you get a free box of Ritz crackers. If you printed off the $1 off two, then it makes for a great deal. Shoot, that's gone as well off coupons.com.
