Great Deal on Walgreens Diapers

I just wanted to let you know about a great deal on Walgreens diapers this week. The Walgreens brand jumbo packs of diapers are Buy-One-Get-One-Free this week. The price is anywhere between $7.50 and $8.99. So that's a good deal by itself, but it gets better. Walgreens has a deal this week where for every $25 you spend you get $5 back in "jingle cash" to spend next week (the "jingle cash" will be valid Dec 12-18). The cool thing is that it calculates how much you spend based on the price before coupons and store deals, including BOGO. So if you buy 6 packs that will put you right around $50 before the BOGO sale is applied, so you'll get $10 back that you can spend there next week. I bought 6 packs of size 4 at the one on Duncan and Windsor and they were priced at $8.99 (but I swear the other stores around town have them at $7.99). Just make sure that if they are $7.99 that you get something that's like $2.50 or so to make sure your total goes above $50. You'll pay $24 to $27 + tax out of pocket (plus any filler items) and then get $10 back for 6 packs of diapers!

Indianapolis Children's Museum Annual Pass for $60

If you sign up on My Savvy Source (a site kind of like groupon, but specializing in family friendly fun) and check out the Indianapolis deal, you can get an annual family pass to the Indianapolis Children's Museum for $60, which is half off the regular price!

Go here to sign up, then click on Local Savings, the Indianapolis. The deal expires at the end of the day on Thursday.

Cheap Rechargeable Batteries, Razor Blades, and More

I don't know if you've heard of Groupon or not, but I thought I'd pass along a good deal I saw today. Groupon is a site where there is a special deal each day for each major city area. They are often times local restaurants, entertainment, stores, etc that offer gift certificates for 50-90% off face value as long as enough people buy in (which pretty much always happens pretty quickly). You have to purchase the groupon the day it is offered, but the actual certificate is good for much longer.

The deal I saw today is actually an online deal posted on the under Long Island in the list of cities. You can buy a $20 gift certificate to soap.com for $10. I took a look at soap.com to see if it was anything I would be interested in and found that they have all sorts of household and personal products at regular store prices. That didn't excite me too much because I usually get really good deals on those sorts of things. I looked around the site for things that I can't usually find on sale, that would be good to buy essentially at 50% off. I was so excited to find rechargeable AA and AAA batteries since that is something I was actually going to shop for today anyway! The other thing I looked for that we always need but I rarely find on sale is razor blades for my husband (he is particular about those and they aren't cheap). Take a look and see if there is anything that you would be interested in, then sign up on Groupon and buy the soap.com groupon (available only today, but the groupon certificate you buy is good through Dec 23rd). Oh, this groupon also includes free 1-2 day shipping, so you really can't go wrong.

Personalized Plates for Gifts or for Fun! $5

Personalized Plates for Gifts or for Fun! $5

I accidentally ordered a teacher kit for my kids to make make-a-plates, so I have 100 make-a-plates. If you would like to make some of these for your kids or have your kids draw on them and use them as Christmas gifts to grandparents or anything like that, let me know.

I have to send the order in all together and I am not in too big a hurry. I think if we sent in in by October 15, that would give plenty of precessing time before the holidays. Their turn-around time is 3 weeks, and then that would give you time to ship some gifts if you need to.

Anyway, each plate would be $5 (including shipping and everything), so if you want to make any, you can contact me at 351-8176 and marileejohnson@gmail.com to get your special circle paper to draw on, and then we send them in to have the plates made. I will be sending this in October 15.

Shopping Bags

I was just at Sam's Club and they had some reusable shopping bags on clearance. They are really big ones (18 x 14 x 11) and have hand and shoulder straps. I bought a 2 pack about a year ago and I want to say they were at least $5. Today they were marked down to $1.91 for 2 (anything ending in .x1 at Sam's Club means it is the cheapest it will get). I love the ones I already have and use them all the time. They fold up small but can hold a ton. They're great for all of your big Sam's Club purchases or I use them a lot when I go to Aldi and stock up on things like crackers and pretzels.

For all of the coupons, you should be able to print off 2 coupons per computer. And don't do the Garden Harvest Ronzoni coupon because that pasta is not part of the 10 for 10 deal and neither is lasagna pasta (which is what I was originally hoping to get), but the rest should be just fine!

Dump and Run sale

Dump & Run Sale
Now in its 9th year, Dump & Run is an annual program of the University YMCA, Champaign-Urbana’s oldest charity. The basic concept is simple: the YMCA collects reusable items that students would otherwise dispose of as they move out, and then sell the collected items at the annual garage sale. This program reduces litter and consumer waste, saves space in landfills, lowers dumping costs for certified housing units, and provides inexpensive items for students to purchase for the fall. The sale will be held at the U of I Stock Pavilion, 1402 W. Pennsylvania Ave. in Urbana, across the street from the cemetery and three blocks east of Memorial Stadium.
Saturday, August 21 from 8am - 5pm ($2 admission)
Sunday, August 22 from 11am - 4pm ($3 bag sale, 1/2 price furniture), 4:30pm-6pm (Free Sale)

Gap- $50 for $25

Groupon is a website that has a deal of the day that is only valid if enough people sign up for the deal offered. It's mostly located in big cities and most of the deals are for places in those cities. Today the deal works at Gaps nationwide. There isn't a Groupon market for Champaign, but I subscribe to the Chicago one-just in case :) Here's what I copied from RefundCents.com:

WOW! Things are hopping today at Groupon. It looks like the entire country has the same offer. Get a $50 The Gap gift certificate for $25. If you are a Gap shopper, you'll jump on that. This offer is limit 1 per person (others have been unlimited). If you are not a member of Groupon, it's a simple free process to sign up. Opt to get their daily emails for your city. You might have a delay getting into the site right now. It's being hammered by customers wanting this Gap deal. When I got the "I'm sorry" page, I hit refresh a couple times and it came up. Groupon

Cheap Children's Clothes

Frogs and Fairies, a children's consignment store on Philo Road in Urbana, is having a half off sale for their entire inventory of resale children's clothes today. They seemed to have mostly baby clothes, but they did have racks in the back going all the way to size 10. They also carry some maternity clothes. I went there this morning, and their prices for most items ranged from $4-$12, but with an added 50% off that's not bad. I found some cute things for my baby there.

Gap Outlet-Gap Jeans 2.97

I went down to Tuscola today to pick up some Children's Place clothes for my sister. While there I stopped in at the gap to check out their 12.99 capris. Walking in the store, on the left was a cart with jeans and a sign that said 6.99. I went over to check them out and they had been marked down to 2.97. I got three pairs for each of my sisters (they are size 0 and 1) so there were tons and four pairs for myself (not even close to a 1 :). I also found a 2.97 pair on the clearance rack so there might be some up there as well. They were mostly curvy flares, but I also got so straight leg as well. Gymboree was also having major summer clerance (to add to Children's Place, Carters, and OshKosh). I found some shirts for 2.99 and 3.99 as well as cheap bathing suits, dresses, and even cute boy stuff.

Outlet Children's Sales

The Children's Place out in Tuscola is having a massive sale with tons of good deals. Lots of long sleeve shirts were only $1! Carter's and Osh Kosh were having sales too- 3.99 and up, but Children's Place had the best prices. Old Navy had 40% off everything in the store including clearance items. Good stuff!

Amazing Meijer Deal

I was at Meijer last night and used a 20% off coupon for Meijer naturals found on facebook.
Just go to Meijer, "like" them and then go to coupons to print it off. It is good through the 5th of July. Anyway... I purchased a couple Meijer naturals to try them out along with the rest of my groceries and guess what? The coupon took 20% off my ENTIRE grocery order! I saved over $40 just with that one coupon! Hope it works out for some of you, too.

Help!

This isn't really a bargain post, but I thought I'd see if anyone was interested anyway. We bought tickets to go on the Monticello Lunch with Santa on the Train event in December and I bought an extra child ticket I don't need. If you are interested or plan to go to the Saturday session at 10am and need a child's ticket, please let me know. They are $12 and I bought one thinking my daughter would need it, but apparently kids under 2 are free. We'd love to see some familiar faces there with us! You can order online here- www.MonticelloChamber.org

250 Gallon Totes

Nilufer Smith from the Mahomet Ward wanted to pass along that there is a posting on craigslist for 250 gallon totes. These could work great for emergency prepardedness- water or fuel. You can look at the posting here:

"These are on a 4- way metal pallet. They can be used for used oil, chemical, rainwater, or any thing else you would like to store. They have a valve on bottom that can be easily adapted to a standard garden hose."

I wish I had room for one!

Honey, Potatoes, Chocolate Chips, and Chicken!

About every six weeks, honey at Walgreens goes on sale (with an in-ad coupon) for $3.99for a 2 lb (32 oz) bottle. This is the least expensive I have found honey (even cheaper than buying in larger quantities). This week (well what is left of it) is one of those weeks!

County Market is having a 2-day sale (Friday and Saturday) that has a few good deals. Nestle Chocolate Chips are $.99, which is a great price, especially for this time of year! I think there is a limit of 3 per visit. Also a 5-lb bag of potatoes is $.88.

Frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts are $3.99 for 40 oz (2.5 lbs) this week at County Market, which is also a good price ($1.60/lb).

Walmart Clothing Clearance

The Savoy Walmart has a ton of clothing on clearance right now. I bought some baby clothes for shower gifts for $1 and some for my kids too. There's a lot of $1-$10 racks with some decent stuff on them in all departments. Probably the other Walmarts are doing the same.

Plus, on Saturday they have their chunk cheese for only $1.99. I love their mozzarella.

Gap Jeans- 30% off

30% off Gap jeans- Bring in an old pair of jeans (any brand- any condition) and you will get 30% off a new pair of Gap jeans. We just did this yesterday at Marketplace mall and the deal worked. We bought jeans that were regular priced, but I've heard from others that this also applies to jeans on sale- you would get 30% additional off the sale price.
The sales associate said that they donate the jeans to a company that uses denim to make housing insulation. I know that this promotion lasts at least until March 11, but it might go on longer. If you want to take advantage of this offer- I suggest calling the Gap at Marketplace mall to ask questions.

PVO Children's Sale

The PVO Children's Sale is coming up. For those of you who have never been, this sale has earned a reputation as being cheaper than One Week Boutique, with about the same quality of items. Essentially it's a big garage sale with great deals and you can sell your own stuff there retaining 70% of the cost. Here's the info:

Thank you for your interest in the PVO Children’s sale! We are happy to have you participating with us again as a vendor. After reading this, please email or call if you have any additional questions!

How does it work?

You price your items and bring them to the school at 6:00pm on Friday, March 26th. We sell them for you on the morning of March 27th and you collect your profit at 2:30pm on that day!

What is the catch?

Prairieview-Ogden PTO collects 30% of your profit.

What do I need to do?

You have been assigned a vendor number and given price tags. On the left and right side of the tag, please write your vendor number, your selling price, circle whether it is a boy or girl item (if applicable), and mark the size. Please secure your price tag to the item in an easy to find place. (collar, waist, top of toy, front of book, etc.) Please use safety pins to secure tags to clothing items. We ask that you put in a clear bag or tape down, any item that has loose pieces. Bring your items and unused pricing tags to the school at 6:00pm on March 26th Collect your profit and any unsold items at 2:30pm on March 27th.

What items do you accept?

Anything that relates to children: spring or summer clothing, shoes, toys, bikes, sports equipment, strollers, car seats, books, games, children's furniture (cribs, l'il tables, dressers), children's bedding, halloween costumes, coats, maternity clothes, etc. We suggest you sell items that are clean and in usable condition. Items that are not related to children, fall or winter clothing, or items not in good condition will NOT be put out to sell! WE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY STUFF ANIMALS. The PVO PTO fundraising committee members have final decision on what is included in the sale.

Why different colored tags?

We require that you use our tags. We use different colors to help us quickly sort the unsold items after each sale. White tags should be used if you want both your profit and your items returned to you. Blue tags should be used if you want your profit but do not want your unsold items returned to you. Yellow tags should be used if you don’t want your items or any profit, you just want the items out of your house! You can pick up tags from PVO South Elementary (304 Market St. in Ogden) during school hours.

**THIS SPRING WE WILL BE TRYING A ½ PRICE SALE FOR ALL BLUE TAG ITEMS REMAINING AFTER 11AM. FROM 11-11:30am- 100% OF THE SALE FROM BLUE & YELLOW TAG ITEMS WILL GO TO THE PVO PTO. (We’re finding we are getting more and more vendors with blue tag items which means we are left with a lot to clean up. We hope to bring in some last minute bargain shoppers.)

What happens if my item loses its tag?

Any items without a tag will not be sold and will be left for you to claim after the sale. Any unclaimed items will become the property of the Prairieview-Ogden PTO.

What can I do to help?

We welcome volunteers! We have 3 time slots that need volunteers. 1) Setup – setting up tables and putting out sale items on Friday night, 6-9pm. 2)Sale morning-working the sale, sorting, cashiers, etc. 8:30-11:30am 3)Clean up -returning items to vendors and cleaning up the school11:30-2:30pm. Anyone who volunteers can pre-shop on Friday evening! We only need a specified number of volunteers so email us early at pvo.pto@hotmail.com to sign up.

What do I do if I have more questions?

Email us at pvo.pto@hotmail.com or by calling one of the following committee members: Laura Irle, 217-582-2162, Nicole Crites: 217-621-9110.

Glasses

So I recently replaced my glasses and I thought I'd pass along what I learned. First of all, if you are a starving student family like us and have Medicaid, you can get free eye exams and glasses at the Eye Center on Windsor. The selection they have that are applicable aren't that great, but they work- even if you just need them as a backup.

Second of all, don't buy them from a retail store like lenscrafters or pearle vision. Even when they run a 2 for 1 sale, their rates are still higher than normal. I went around and found a pair I liked, but if I had bought them from Pearle vision I would have paid $500 total. Their lenses run from $175 for the most basic lens and around $300 for any anti-glare, etc. Instead look around, find some frames you like and look them up online. I bought the exact same frames for half the price online.

The cheapest place for lenses is Sam's Club. Frames there are also VERY affordable so much so that I wish I would have bought some there in the first place. They will charge a $20 fee for doing glasses that you bought elsewhere. BUT, their lenses range from $75-$150, so it's totally worth it.

Walgreens Diapers Jumbo pack $2.19 (newborn,1,2)

I just got the BEST diaper deal I have ever gotten (besides the rare occasion that they are free). Walgreens has the Walgreens brand size newborn (40 ct), size 1 (56 ct), and size 2 (48 ct) diapers clearanced down to $2.19 a pack!!! That is like 4-5 cents a diaper.

I was at the Walgreens on Prospect (across from Home Depot), but I would expect that the other stores in the area have the same clearance price. For the past few weeks these diapers were clearanced to $5.89 (I'm wondering if they are getting new packaging or something), which is still a really good price, but I cannot believe that they went even lower. We have used Walgreens brand diapers when they've been on a good sale before (though never nearly this good) and they worked great for us.

My kids don't wear those sizes, but we will eventually have more kiddos, so I spent $20 and got 10 packs. I really had to control myself to stop at that.

For those of you with little ones in your arms or on the way (now or sometime in the future), this is definitely a price to run out the door right now for. You might want to call ahead. Good luck!

Meijer Deals this week

Here are some good Meijer deals I found today.

Strawberries are 2/$5 again and they look pretty good. I haven't tried them yet.

Oranges are $3 for 5lbs. I've loved the oranges I've gotten there so far this year. I'll try one and let you know.

Cheeseheads 24-pack string cheese is $4.99. Then use the $1/1 coupon from here:
http://www.frigocheeseheads.com/

Kraft Mac and Cheese is 5/$3 then use the coupon here: (This is for $1 off of 5... making the price only $0.40 each.)
http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?bt=vg&tqnm=zbqgdym21151405&o=61563&c=KR&p=ZgLY4hr

Pam spray is 2/$4. There was a coupon that apparently is gone now, but if you printed it off, it was $.50 off two. Bummer that it's gone.

Kraft cheese is 3/$5. Plus, if you buy 3, you get a free box of Ritz crackers. If you printed off the $1 off two, then it makes for a great deal. Shoot, that's gone as well off coupons.com.

Cheap Hair Accessories

I recently went to check out the new Goodwill over on Anthony Drive. This is definitely my favorite thrift store in the area- it seems better stocked with better prices. Anyways, they had a ton of brand new hair accessories- headbands and elastics- for 74 cents. I bought for myself, but there was also some that would work well for little girls. They had some other new products too- kitchenware and accessories, leather furniture and end tables- the furniture was a little out of my range, but there are definite treasures to be found there.

Cheap Paper at Staples

Staples has some good deals this week. Here are the ones that I got today:

Brights colored 8.5x11 paper (500 sheets) 9.99 each -7.99 (Easy Rebate-limit 2)=$2 each

Multipurpose 8.5x11 paper (500 sheets) 4.99 each - 2.99 (Easy Rebate-limit 2)=$2 each

For 4 packages of paper my total was $32.59 and I will be getting back $21.96 in rebates=$10.63 including tax.

They also have:

HP Everyday 8.5″x11″ Photo Paper, 50/pack $9.99- $8.99 Easy Rebate (limit 2)Final cost ONLY $1!

Sharp EL611PA Printing Calculator $14.99Get back a $14.99 Easy Rebate (limit 2)Final cost FREE!

A couple of notes:
*They have a bunch of the Brights packages on an end cap and I got two packages of solid colored paper because I assumed that they were out of the assorted color packages. Later I found the aisle with all of the colored paper and there was a lot more with a few different kinds of assorted packages.

*When my rebate receipt printed out for the colored paper it said that the quantity purchased was 1 even though I bought 2. I talked to an assistant mgr and she said it would still work just fine. I just submitted the rebates online and it did show that I bought 2.

*For those who haven't done Staples rebates before-they print out separate Rebate Receipts for each of the items and you can either mail them in or fill out a form online. Very easy. It takes 4-6 weeks to get your check.

*Dianna Wilson said that colored paper at Walmart is $3.97 for 150 sheets, so this is a really good deal.

Teacher Discount Program at JoAnn's

JoAnn's offers a teacher discount program, and that includes homeschoolers. I just saw this on The Happy Housewife for those of you who homeschool, or know someone who does:
To be eligible for the discount you must show proof that you are a homeschooler. You can use your state or local homeschool membership card, HSLDA membership card, or any documentation from your county proving your are a homeschooler.

When you sign up for the program you receive a card for 15% off all your purchases (sale and non sale items) for one year. You also receive a one time use coupon for 20% off your total purchase including sale items. I always save my 20% off coupon for a big purchase. Your teacher discount card can be used in the store or online. There is no limit to how many times you use your Teacher Rewards card.

If you can’t wait to hit the stores, shop Joann.com and use the coupon code AE74 and save 40% off one regularly priced item.

Meijer Deals

For those of you who like good deals Meijer has a few this week. I was looking for details on the Betty Crocker potato deal and found this blog that has them all listed:http://bargainbriana.com/meijer-deals-214

The highlights for me were "free" potatoes (after you get a coupon for $3 off your next purchase), .50 Chex Mix, .64 Barilla pasta, and .75 Gushers. I was also excited that they had strawberries for 2.50 (good for my child who has been begging me for them) and fresh pineapple for 2.99. At Meijer they have the pineapple already cored for the same price in their refrigerated fruit section-over by the fancy cheese. I just thought I would share. Those potatoes would make a good addition to food storage.
